plastic whale circular furniture
Plastic soup is a growing global problem: this year another 8 billion kilos of plastic waste will enter the world’s waters. Plastic Whale decided to stop talking and do something about this. LAMA concept joined the mission, developed the conceptstory and designed the complete collection. Joining forces to turn a problem into a solution:Plastic Whale Circular Furniture High-end office furniture made from Amsterdam Canal Plastic produced by Vepa Project Furniture.
The ultimate inspiration behind all our designs for Plastic Whale Circular Furniture is the oceans’ most impressive citizen, the whale. Physically unique, dignified and graceful in its movements, this awe-inspiring creature also symbolises the challenge that we are taking on. It is huge and yet extremely vulnerable to environmental damage. Just like the seas that are its home.
Plastic soup is a huge threat for this incredible mammal, and so we have translated characteristic elements of the whale into the designs. Think, for example, of the look and feel of its skin, the body tissue and the impressive skeleton.
circular materials & design
The starting point of the materials is essentially the impact they have on the environment.
The removal of waste from the environment (like plastic fishing), preventing it from entering the environment and finally the influence of producing these materials on the environment.
All new products eventually have directly impact on the environment. Production, construction and transport leave a footprint behind.
Also the question of what happens to the product after it has been written off. The aim is to develop products that are easy to decompose after life, so that all materials can be reused or returned to the right waste stream.
